Micronesia
Micronesia is an ethnographic region in the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Philippines located in the west, Indonesia to the southwest, Papua New Guinea and Melanesia in the South and Islands to the southeast and east. The area is inhabited primarily by mikronesiere, ie people who do not speak Polynesian or Melanesian languages.
Micronesia means "small islands" (Greek mikros - small and Nesos - islands.

The name Micronesia was first used by the French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville in 1831 to separate the region from Melanesia and Polynesia.

The seat of government is in Palikir on Pohnpei Island. The islands are managed as part of the US-managed UN Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands from 1947 to 1990. Islands were given autonomy in 1986 and has since been a sovereign state in free association with the United States.

Micronesia consists of 607 islands that stretches about 2.900 km from west to east, form the largest part of Karolinerne. The area is divided into four states as represented by each star in the country's flag.

Main Eye Pohnpei is about 3.250 km east of the Philippines and about 2.000 km northeast of Papua New Guinea.

The climate in the country is tropiskt, hot and humid. The rainy season lasts most of the year with precipitation in all months of the year. The area is one of the places where it is most rainfall in the world.
