The Slovak Republic
The Slovak Republic is located in Central Europe. It borders (Czech Republic) in the northwest, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, and Austria to the west.

The current Slovakia was part of the Kingdom of Hungary, and as such the United imperial and royal monarchy Austria-Hungary until 1918, and was then subject to Czechoslovakia. Slovakia was created as a separate state the first time in 1938 as a result of the Munich Agreement, and was allied with Germany during the war.

In 1945 the country became part of Czechoslovakia, which was occupied by the Soviet Union until 1989. After the communist dictatorship's fall was the state Slovakia restored 1 January 1993. Slovakia joined the European Union in May 2004.

The President is the Slovak head of state, the president is elected by the people for four-year periods. Most of the executive power lies with the head of government, the prime minister, usually the leader of the largest party in the National Assembly. The prime minister chosen by the president.
