Ukraina
Ukraine borders Russia to the north, Belarus to the north, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania, Moldova and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south. Kiev is both the capital and largest city. The nation's modern history begins with østslaverne. Since the 800's and up to the 1100s amounted to much of today's Ukraine Kiev Empire, and thus center of the medieval East Slavic civilization varjagdominerte. From the 14th century Ukraine shared among several regional powers, before most of the country was part of the Russian Empire in the 1800s.

After a chaotic period of much internal discord and struggle for independence after World War I, in 1922 Ukraine became one of the founding republics of the Soviet Union. As the Soviet Union was the country's area greatly expanded in the west, and in 1945 was also the Ukrainian SSR of the founders of the United Nations. When the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1991, Ukraine declared itself an independent republic. It began as a transition to a market economy, which resulted in eight years of recession. Since then, the economy has experienced a steady increase, with growth in the gross domestic product on average seven percent annually.
