Brunei (Brunei Darussalam officially; Malay: Negara Brunei Darussalam) is a sovereign state and sultanate on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is bordered to the South China Sea in the north and is enclosed by its Sarawak Malaysia to the south. Brunei is divided into two parts on either side of Limbang, which is part of Malaysia, and the country has therefore exclave of Temburong in the east and the remaining land to the west. The country became independent on 1 January 1984, having been a protectorate under the United Kingdom since 1888.

Brunei is divided into two parts by Limbang valley belonging to Malaysia. The western section is the largest, and the eastern is much smaller. The landscape is characterized by low hills and swamps, and in the east there are several hills. Over 80% of the country is covered by forest. The longest river is the Belait starting just north of the city sukang inland and culminates in Kuala Belait on the coast. The country's coastline is about 161 km long. The highest peak is Bukit Pagon with a height of 1850 meters above sea level ..

The climate is tropical and it is hot and humid all year round. The average temperature is about 27 ° C and the annual rainfall is about 2500 mm along the coast and up to 3500 mm inland. Some inland areas have over 7000 mm annual rainfall.
