Lisbon
Lisbon is the capital and largest city in Portugal. The town is beautifully situated on the north bank of the river Tagus, about 15 kilometers from the mouth where the Tagus flows into the Atlantic. The city has a beautiful location, and the climate is mild and maritime.
City-county Lisbon has over 3 million people are living in urban skyline in and around the central downtown area.

A well-known landmark in Lisbon, is the old Jewish quarter Alfama. The narrow alleys where tram winds its way forward given Lisbon nicknamed "Europe's San Francisco." The modernist Expo 1998 park just outside the city is another famous tourist attraction. Lisbon Zoo includes a separate dog cemetery.

From the city you can see over on the south side of the Tagus with the statue Cristo Rei. This is a 28 meter high figure of Christ on a ca. 89 meter high pedestal. In a pedestal of four legs is the elevator up to the statue.

In the district of Belem is including a carriage museum and the museum of modern art.
A little over half an hour by train from Lisbon Cascais and Estoril is located. This seaside with small beaches with fine sand. One of Lisbon's most colorful neighborhoods is the old Jewish quarter of Alfama. The biggest singing star of all time in the Portuguese folk song tradition of fado, the legendary Amália Rodrigues is buried in Santa Egracia Church, which towers over the quarter.


Among other celebrities on the monument, "Padrão dos Descobrimentos" we see Vasco da Gama found the sea route to India, Pedro Álvares Cabral discovered Brazil and Ferdinand Magellan - the first to circumnavigate the globe. In the square next to the monument are the journeys that the Portuguese explorers did, depicted in mosaics, and from the top there is an excellent view of the Tagus and Lisbon.

Belém should also experience due to the UNESCO World Heritage Monastery Mosteiro dos Jeronimos - one of Portugal's most experience worthy buildings, located at Praça do Império. Also view the Torre de Belém is worth a visit. It dates from 1515 and was previously helping to make the city's security
