East Timor
East Timor (also known as Timor-Leste) is a country in Southeast Asia. The country is one of the youngest in the world and gained full independence on 20 May 2002, after years of conflict with the occupying Indonesia. The country consists of the eastern part of the island of Timor, the islands of Atauro and Jaco, and Oecusse, one exclave on the northwestern part of the island in the Indonesian West Timor. The total land area is about the size of Montenegro.

East Timor is the eastern part of the island of Timor. The landscape is dominated by a mountain range with several extinguished volcanoes. From the mountains flows the many rivers towards the coast and lowlands consisting mainly of grasslands and savannas. In rainy times flooded rivers often over. The climate is tropical with alternating rainy and dry periods. It is cooler in the mountains because of the height.

Drought is a major problem, and the land affected by extensive droughts every three or four years. East Timor has difficulty deforestation. The main reason for this is the widespread use of svibruk in agriculture. The original forest has been greatly reduced, and dense forests found today only in less accessible areas. Cutting down of forests has led to severe soil erosion, and the country is very prone to flooding.
