Cambodia
Cambodia, officially the Kingdom of Cambodia is a country in Southeast Asia. It borders Thailand to the west and northwest, Laos to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the south. Capital is Phnom Penh. Cambodia's nature is shared by the two dominant bodies of water: the mighty Mekong River and its delta and the Tonle Sap (Great Lake in English). Tonle Sap Lake is connected to the Mekong river via a 100 km long canal. As the remnants of the French colonial rule in Indochina is Cambodia's cities still with beautiful old houses on long alleys. They are not completely without notice by the harsh wars, but the old grandeur still wonder in the bricks. Between the buildings from the colonial era are the ancient temples, pagodas and homes from before the French arrival in a lovely mixture of nostalgia, history and culture.

A trip to Cambodia without a visit to Angkor Wat is almost unthinkable, and with good reason. The huge ruin complex was the capital of the Khmer Empire and is the star example of Khmer architecture 'special. The jungle around looking almost like it is about to consume the large ruin complex, and part of it is still overgrown with vines as it was found in the 1800s. A reminder of Cambodia's horrific past can be obtained by mass grave Killing Fields, where 17 000 people were killed by the Khmer Rouge are buried.

The capital Phnom Penh should also be included in traveling to Cambodia. The city is characterized by architecture from the time a French colony and contains one of the few Buddhist monuments like the Khmer Rouge did not move, namely a great Silver Pagoda. The floor inside the pagoda are covered with silver tiles, and buddha statues in gold, silver, crystal and diamonds sitting or standing around the room.
