Las Vegas is a city in Clark County in the state of Nevada, USA. The city is one of America's commercial and tourist center, particularly noted for its numerous casinos and its many wedding chapels. Every day, 150 people marry in Las Vegas. The city also has many more divorce courts than most other U.S. cities.

Las Vegas is the largest city in the state of Nevada. Las Vegas is also known for the famous TV series CSI and another TV series with the same name as the town. Las Vegas has many "fake" buildings, a smaller model of the eifel tower, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, the Pyramid and many more. Las Vegas is the city in the U.S. that are growing fastest. From less than 25 000 inhabitants in 1950 to over 2 million inhabitants in 2007. [1] It is estimated that the population of Las Vegas will double by 2015. The explosive population growth has also laid claim to much of the water resources in the arid area.

The city is also the seat of the University of Nevada. Near the town is also water reservoirs Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, which was dammed during the 1930s. The city has several major military installations such. the Nellis Air Force Range and Nuclear Testing Site established here during the Second World War. Originally, the city which today is known as Las Vegas resident of a group of Mormons in 1855, but they left the area as early as 1857. The town grew up around then Fort Baker, which had been built in 1864, and the town expanded greatly after the construction of a railroad in 1905 and the town grew even stronger after the legalization of spillekasinoene that the city is so famous for in 1931. Millionaire Howard Hughes developed this city during the 1950s.
